Lyle Clent Miller of Floydada won his battle with ALS as he passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 68.
Lyle was born to Orba and Maudine (McMillin) Miller on February 19, 1954 in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1972.
Lyle married La Tresa (Mallow) in 1986. They have three children: Titus, Abigail, and Sarah Jo.
Throughout his entire life, Lyle held an unwavering faith in God. He was a member of Northwest Church of Christ, where he enjoyed preaching, leading songs with his enthusiastic and unique style, and doing radio programs. If the doors were open, Lyle and his family were there. Lyle was also active in monthly singing at Westridge Manor. Lyle and La Tresa have hosted many young teenagers in their home during summer youth meetings. God was the center of Lyle’s life and his source of strength.
In addition to being a dedicated Christian, husband, and father, Lyle loved farming in the Sandhill community. Lyle grew up and lived on the same homestead his dad was born and raised on. He also loved traveling in the U.S. and Europe while his daughter, Abigail and family lived in the U.K. His favorite overseas trips were to snow ski in the Swiss Alps and to visit the beaches of Normandy and visit with locals where he got to explore his interest in World War II. Lyle loved the lake and was an avid water skier. The lake was his happy place. Lyle also enjoyed going to the mountains to snow ski and ride ATVs. He also enjoyed being involved in the surrounding communities by serving on the boards of the High Plains Underground Water District, FSA County Committee, Floydada ISD and still continued to serve on the board of Plains Land Bank in Amarillo, Texas. He was dedicated to his board commitments and even attended a board meeting a week prior to his passing.
He has been known for his wide grin, contagious knee-slapping laugh, never-ending energy, and optimistic personality. He was once described as an "eternal optimist."
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother, Kris, and nephew, Cade Miller. He is survived by his wife, La Tresa Miller, his children Titus Miller (Bethany) of Floydada, Abigail Walker (Mark) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sarah Jo Graves (Braden) of Floydada, six grandchildren, Micah Miller, Barrett Graves, Daniel Miller, Rowyn Walker, Silas Miller and soon-to-be-born baby boy Graves, his three brothers, Van Miller (Dianna) of Plainview, Mark Miller (Patti) of Plainview and Hugh Miller (Karen) of Floydada, and many family and friends including numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many brothers and sisters in Christ. He will be greatly missed.
As Lyle and La Tresa navigated Lyle’s ALS diagnosis from March 16, 2022, Calvert Home Health was a part of their lives. We want to thank Damon Obenhaus for his personal commitment to Lyle and being the reason Lyle looked forward to his weekly visit. We appreciate Damon’s care in making Lyle’s transition much easier.
