Margaret was born on January 27, 1950 in Raymondville, Texas to Tiburcio and San Juana (Cervantes) Olvera. She married Gabriel Gamboa Jr on August 25, 1973 in Nazareth, Texas. Together they had one daughter, Michelle. Margaret was a homemaker most of her life and a devoted mother, however her favorite title was Band Mom. She helped to sew color guard uniforms and flags for the Plainview “Powerhouse of the Plains” Marching Band and proudly attended every football game and band competition for 4 years always riding on “Bus 8.” Margaret was able to attend the State Marching Contest in Waco twice and go on band trips to Durango, Colorado and Jacksonville, Florida for the 1998 Gator Bowl. She loved every minute of it. She continued to enjoy marching band when Michelle went on to march with the Sound of West Texas at West Texas A&M University. Lucky for Margaret, Michelle married an aspiring band director and marching band and music would always be a part of her life. In the final weeks of her life, she was finally able to watch her first grandchild march with the Amarillo High Sandie Band and she couldn’t be more proud. Margaret was a gifted cook known for the delicious meals she made for family gatherings and holidays. Some might say her flour tortillas and tamales were world famous!

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jessie Olvera and Juan Davila, and one sister, Carolina Bermea.

She is survived by her husband Gabriel Gamboa Jr; one daughter, Michelle Switzer & husband Jesse, and three grandchildren, Jonah, Moriah, and Isaiah Switzer.
