Maria Belen Alvarez (Plainview)

Maria Belen Alvarez, age 76, of Plainview, TX, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on October 24, 1948, in Alvarado, Texas, to Maria Consuelo Cavazos and Miguel Farias Zuniga.

On December 22, 1967, she married Ricardo Alvarez Sr. Their marriage was filled with love, dancing, and laughter, until his passing remarkably on the same date, August 9, 2013, exactly 12 years before her own passing.

Family was her world, and she devoted her life to loving and caring for them. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to her, and her great-grandkids adored their “Gammy". She had a way of making everyone feel loved and cared for. Surrounded by family was where she was happiest, and she would do anything to be there for them.

She loved cooking, and if you knew Maria, then you knew her food was amazing. Over the years, she worked at various places cooking, including Allsups, where people would stop in to get a taste of her famous burritos. Her tortillas will also be deeply missed by all of her grandkids. The example she set will continue to inspire her family for generations to come.

She is survived by her daughters, Noelia Garza of Plainview, Texas, Graciela Alvarez and Keith Shannon of Plainview, Texas; three sons, Daniel Alvarez and Maria of Riverside, California, Ricardo Alvarez, Jr. of Plainview, Texas, Jamie Ernest Alvarez of Plainview, Texas; her siblings, Olga Zuniga Perales, Israel Zuniga, Irma Guerra, Amelia Rivera, Maria Consuelo Zamora, and Bruno Zuniga and twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ricardo Alvarez Sr.; her son-in-law, George Garza; her brother, Francisco Cerda; and Her Brother, Miguel Zuniga Jr.

Rosary will be held on Thursday, August 14th at 6:30 pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, August 15, at 2:30 pm with burial to follow at Plainview Cemetery. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in celebrating her life and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
