Marlin Leonard Andrus (Plainview)

Marlin L. Andrus, 76, passed away on October 5, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He lived a full life, deeply rooted in his love for family, nature, and hard work. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Born in Kress, Texas, on April 2, 1948, to John Emery and Linnie Andrus, Marlin grew up with his brother Charles in a close-knit, hardworking family. He graduated from Kress High School in 1966.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Diana (Dowdell) Andrus of Kress; one daughter, Cristy Bennett and husband Craig of Plainview; one son, Craig Emery Andrus and wife Jackie of Kress; one brother, Charles Andrus and wife Janis of Tulia; five grandchildren, Emery Andrus, Elisa Andrus, Haylee Bennett, Brandee Bennett, Ethan Andrus and three great grandchildren, Aidee Silva, Damaris Silva and Elias Silva.

He had a wonderful wife, Connie, who he shared his life with for 58 years. They went on many adventures together and loved traveling, birdwatching, and immersing themselves in the beauty of nature. They devoted their time to cultivating both of their homes with gardens, trees, and various passion projects. Their Kress home is adorned with plants designed to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife, while their home near Big Bend National Park is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.

Together they started a business selling plants to local nurseries and in 1998, established Texas Gardens in Plainview. He loved nothing more than talking to people about their plants, offering advice, and hearing their stories.

He was admired for his sharp intellect, kindness, deep appreciation for nature, and his ability to inspire others through his example. He had a curiosity for the world, always eager to learn and share his knowledge with others. His work ethic and morals were admired by many. His grandchildren describe him as “an inspiration to live your life doing what you love and to help others along the way.”

Though his time with us has come to an end, Marlin has embarked on his next great adventure. He was well loved and will be missed beyond measure.

As a final tribute to his outlook on life, we remember his wonder in the simple things:

“Every moment there are a million miracles happening around you: a flower blossoming, a bird tweeting, a bee humming, a raindrop falling, a snowflake wafting along the clear evening air. There is magic everywhere. If you learn how to live it, life is nothing short of a daily miracle.” – Sadhguru
