Melina Esparza Ortiz (Plainview)

Melina Esparza-Ortiz, lovingly known as “Nenita”, was born on February 4, 2012, in Laredo, Texas to her mother Melina Zermeno. Diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of three, Nenita defied all odds and lived a life overflowing with love, strength, and grace. She spent most of her life in Plainview, Texas, were her warmth and joyful spirit made her beloved by the community. On July 12, 2025, at 8:23 am., Nenita passed peacefully in Lubbock, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of light that will never fade.

She is survived by her devoted mother and her three sisters - Mariana, Carolina, and Carla – who were her greatest companions and comfort. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandparents, Esteban and Laura: her uncles Esteban & Angie and Jorge & Eneida; as well as all her cousins and extended family in Laredo, TX, Dallas, TX, and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Nenita was an inspiration to us all - an embodiment of courage, tenderness, and unwavering faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Trinidad Zermeno. Her family offers heartfelt thanks to the incredible Plainview community and the medical team that stood by her side, especially Rebecca Hopkins, who lovingly cared for Nenita for the last nine years. Her memory will forever shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Angelo Consemino officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held from 12:00P.M. - 6:00P.M. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. A rosary will be held at 6:00P.M. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel.

Melina Esparza - Ortiz, cariñosamente conocida como “Nenita”, nació el 4 de febrero de 2012 en Laredo, Texas, hija de Melina Zermeño. A los tres años fue diagnosticada con cáncer cerebral, y aunque los pronósticos eran dicíciles, Nenita vivió una vida colmada de amor, fortaleza y dulzura. Pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Plainview, Texas, donde conquistó los corazones de toda la comunidad con su alegría y espíritu valiente. Partió en paz el 12 de julio de 2025 a las 8:23a.m. en Lubbock, Texas, dejando un recuerdo imborrable.

Le sobreviven su amorosa madre y sus tres hermanas - Mariana, Carolina y Carla - quienes fueron su alegría y su fuerza. También la recuerdan con inmenso cariño sus abuelitos Esteban y Laura, sus tíos Esteban & Angie y Jorge & Enieda, así como sus primos, Sebastián, Santiago, Paris y Héctor y toda su familia extendida en Lerado, Texas, Dallas, Texas, y Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Nenita fue un ejemplo para todos: símbolo de valor, ternura y fe inquebrantable. Fue precedida en muerte por su padre, Trinidad Zermeño. Su familia agradece de corazón a la comunidad de Plainview y equipo médico que la acompañó con tanto amor. El recuerdo de Nenita vivirá por siempre en quienes la amamos.

La misa funeral se celebrará a las 11:00 a. m. del miércoles 16 de julio de 2025 en la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, oficiada por el Padre Angelo Consemino. Los preparativos están a cargo de la Funeraria Kornerstone de Plainview.

El velatorio se realizará de 12:00 p. m. a 6:00 p. m. el martes 15 de julio de 2025 en la Capilla de la Funeraria Kornerstone. Se llevará a cabo un rosario a las 6:00 p. m. el martes 15 de julio de 2025 en la capilla Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
