Milburn “Mel” Fenton Gaston, 94, of Plainview passed away on August 31, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Taylor Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

He was born a twin to Weldon Frank on December 12, 1926 in Snyder, Texas to Walter Morris and Pettis Lydia (Fenton) Gaston. He was named after H.C. Fenton, a lawyer in Abilene. Mel graduated from Lubbock High School, he was a Texas Tech graduate with Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He also attended West Texas University and Wayland Baptist University, where he received his Elementary Math Degree.  Mel served in the U.S. Army from May 15, 1945 to August 10, 1946 during World War II. He married Bonnie Faye James on May 26, 1954. He was a farmer in Hale County and a junior high math and computer teacher for seventeen years. He also worked as a U.S. crop adjuster. His achievements included Texas Farmers Union President, 1975 Who’s Who in Texas and he served on the Hale County Building and Planning Committee. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and he served as president of First Baptist Brotherhood, secretary/treasurer of State Plains Brotherhood Association, Sunday School teacher and Royal Ambassadors Leader.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pet Gaston; brothers, Charles Morris Gaston, Weldon Frank Gaston and Joe Allen Gaston.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gaston of Plainview; three sons, Terry Lynn Gaston of Albuquerque, NM, Dale Weldon Gaston of Loveland, CO, Randy Lee Gaston of Cathedral City, CA; two sisters-in-law, Helen Pair of Plainview, Joyce McBride of Plainview; two grandchildren, Trevor Dale Gaston and Lane Olivia Gaston, both of Ft. Collins, CO.
