Patricia Lousie Beggs Guffee “Patti” passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at her home. She was 83. Patti, a native of Confluence, PA, landed in Dallas, Texas as a young teen. She lived most of her life in Texas, where she met her husband Eddie Guffee in Plainview. They married February 25, 1960 and welcomed their child Sonny soon after. Patti was a respected figure in Texas Panhandle history, serving as the long-time assistant curator of the Llano Estacado Museum on the campus of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Patti began her employment at the institution in 1976 and dedicated her career to curating exhibits, conducting research, and managing the museum's laboratory operations alongside her husband Eddie Guffee, who was the museum's former director. She was a steadfast partner to Eddie throughout his career. Beyond standard cultural duties, she contributed to important regional archaeological and historical investigations, including the archaeology of the Comanchero Canyons.
In her personal life, she was not only a dedicated wife and mother, but also a dedicated sister, aunt and friend. She was nurturing and loving to everyone in her life. She was not only a historian by trade, but she was also the family’s historian, tracing lineages, telling stories, and connecting the younger generations of the family to their heritage. She was active her entire life and enjoyed exercise, especially when she could support Sonny in his many athletic endeavors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her brother Barry Beggs (Shreveport, LA), Margie Liittschwager (Midland, TX), Mona Wiley (Midland, TX), Richard Beggs (Rowlett, TX), Brad Beggs (Rowlett, TX), and countless nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Eddie Joe Guffee Sr., her son Eddie Joe “Sonny” Guffee, Jr., and her brothers Terry Beggs, Marty Beggs, and Gary Beggs.
A graveside service will be held June 4, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at Plainview Memorial Park.
