Rebecca "Becky" Luthene Yates, passed away at the age of 70 on January 1, 2026. A memorial service will held at the Plainview Methodist Church on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Russ Panzer, Rev. Scott Meador, and Pastor Doug Yates officiating. A meal will be provided by the church for the family at noon. Visitation will be held immediately following the service.
Becky was born on April 15, 1955 in Denton, Texas. Her parents were James and Luthene Landtroop. She graduated in 1973 from Plainview High School and later received her bachelors degree in sociology from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
She married Doug Yates on July 5, 1974 in Plainview, Texas and celebrated 51 years of marriage in 2025.
Though she did not want to be a preacher's wife and despite a debilitant illness she was a great help to Doug in the ministry. She proved the scripture that said His (Jesus) grace is sufficient. She had a deep faith and practiced the principle that one could be in the presence of God throughout the day. She was a prayer warrior. Because she couldn't work, her two sons were her focus. And because of our daughter-in-law's battle with MS we had the privilege of raising our granddaughter Eowyn which Becky enjoyed doing that "girl" stuff.
She was strong beyond belief not allowing her disease to define who she was and no one knew how bad she was doing because she kept it to herself and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents James and Luthene Landtroop and daughter-in-law Amy Yates.
She is survived by her husband Doug Yates; sons Beau Yates of Kansas, Boyd Yates of Plainview, Texas; Granddaughters Eowyn Yates of Plainview and Alia Yates of Vancouver, Washington; brother Rick Landtroop.
