Richard’s Funeral Livestream Richard J. Gaitan, 79 passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 20, 2023 in the chapel of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Richard was born on October 18, 1943 in San Angelo, Texas to Wenceslao & Uvaldina Gaitan. He married Lydia Andrade on August 31, 1962 in Sinton, Texas. He had his own Lawn Service at an early age and at the age of 16 he became the head of the household after the death of his father in 1959. Richard was an Agriculture Crew Leader, owned Gaitan's Upholstery Shop in the late 60's, owned a furniture store in Hale Center during the 70's, worked at Jimmy Dean Meat Company, Missouri Beef Packers, Excel and later known as Cargill for 25 years. He opened a Flea Market and snack bar on 11th & Columbia and in 1991 completed the Austin School of Massage Therapy. He owned a private care giving home from 2002 until 2018. He was involved in several capacities including Sunday School teacher, Nursing Home Ministry, member of College Heights Men's Sunday School Class and a volunteer with Area Community Hospice. Richard enjoyed working in the yard, being a handyman and remodeling houses. He enjoyed family gatherings especially Thanksgiving where he cooked the dressing and Christmas with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Gilbert Rodriguez and son-in-law, Larry Ruiz. Richard is survived by his wife, Lydia Gaitan; five daughters, Sandra Vera & husband Peter, Laura Castillo & husband Benito, Michelle Gaitan, Nancy Kernell & husband Kenny and Brenda Nelson & husband Mark; one son Richard Ray Gaitan & wife Irene; four sisters, Englandtina Rodriguez, Mary Andrade & husband Joe, Yolanda Ybarra and Uvaldina Chavez & husband Robert; one brother, Noe Gaitan & wife Lupe; 26 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to his caregiver, Carmen Castillo and Traditions Health Hospice.
