Ron Wilfong, 80, of Tulia passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Streun officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Kornerstone funeral home.
Ron was born on September 10, 1945 in Borger, Texas to Roy and Mamie Wilfong. From a young age Ron demonstrated an incredible work ethic, beginning his labor alongside his brother Bill at just five years old, helping their mother pick cotton in the field. Ron answered the call of duty by serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While serving in the army he earned his GED. His honorable discharge was a source of pride that he carried throughout his life.
On December 19, 1969, Ron married his beloved wife, Ka. Together, they built a life grounded on love, hard work, and mutual support. Bill and Ron founded and, along with their wives, ran B & R Thriftway, a grocery store that began in Tulia but eventually expanded to 9 different towns across the panhandle and New Mexico. He took immense pride in serving his customers well, and his unwavering support of the community had a lasting impact on the lives he touched.
Ron was an active member of the community, serving as commander of the local VFW and volunteering his time on various boards for Affiliated Foods Inc. In 2025, he embraced his faith and was baptized, finding peace and strength in his relationship with the Lord. Away from work, Ron cherished moments in his mancave, where you could always find a western, horse racing, or golf on the tv. His laughter, kindness, orneriness, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Ronda Ka Wilfong; and his siblings, Erma Hollaway, Philip Wilfong, Dolois Palmer, Loretta Rushin, Garry Wilfong, and Brenda Gaither.
He is survived by his wife, Ka Wilfong; his daughter, Dawn Wilfong Marshall and husband Doug; his brother, Bill Wilfong and wife Laquita; his sister, Sharon Vickers and husband Sam; his grandson, Bryce Shelton; and his granddaughter, Breigh Aldridge and husband Stephen.
Memorials may be made to the Tulia VFW Post 1798, P.O. Box 722, Tulia, TX 79088
Following the service and graveside, all are welcome to join the family for a meal at the Tulia VFW to share stories, laughter, and fond memories of Ron
