Ronnie "Poopsie" Thornton (Plainview)

Ronnie “Poopsie” Thornton, born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and a resident of Abernathy, Texas, passed peacefully on January 3, 2026. He was formerly of Plainview and Lockney, Texas. Known affectionately as “Poopsie,” Ronnie was a fun-loving mess, truly one of a kind, and will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and steady presence in the lives of all who knew him.

Ronnie was a longtime farmer, a well-known auctioneer, and worked for many years as a seed salesman with Pioneer Hybrid. He was widely respected for his strong work ethic, integrity, and dedication to the communities he served.

On September 2, 1961, Ronnie married Patsy Fay McLaughlin, and together they shared a lifetime of love and family. Above all, Ronnie was devoted to his family. He especially loved attending his grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events, rarely missing an opportunity to support them. He brought laughter and joy and never met a stranger.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Pat Thornton; his son, Ritchie Thornton and wife Shannon; his daughter, Ronee’ Patton and husband Bill; his grandchildren Payton, Landry, and Preslee Thornton, Lara Schmieding and husband Steffan, Brandi Dunn and husband Charlie. Great grandchildren; Patton, Bennett, Kathleen and Hayden; two sisters, Patricia Killingsworth of Little Rock, Arkansas and Noriko Ono of Tokyo, Japan; brother-in-law, Rick Kellison; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roxanne Thornton; his parents, Owen and Kathleen Thornton; his brother, Don Thornton; and his sister, Kathy Kellison.

Viewing will be held on January 5, 2026, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on January 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lockney Methodist Church in Lockney, Texas. Burial in Lockney cemetery will follow.
