She was born on August 12, 1933, in Childress, Texas, to Ruben Glenn Pratt and Jenny Ruth Worley Pratt. Ruth Anne grew up in Childress and graduated from Childress High School. On August 19, 1950, she married the love of her life, Herman Edward Nelson, in Quanah, Texas. They shared 54 years of marriage until Herman’s passing in 2004. Ruth Anne and Herman were blessed with three children: Sharon Sue Nelson Brewer (Butch) of Tyler, TX, Glenn David Nelson (Cindy) of Little Elm, TX, Julie Anne Nelson Bowen (Monty) of Plainview, TX

Their early years took them from Lubbock, where their first child was born, to Amarillo, where they welcomed two more, and finally to Plainview in 1961, where they made their home for decades. Ruth Anne later lived in Abernathy before returning to Plainview in 2016. A devoted sister, Ruth Anne cherished her younger brother, Charles Ray, from the moment he was born. At nine years old, she took on a nurturing role, watching over him closely—once even saving him from a near accident between a moving car and a garage door. As a teenager, she was an accomplished pianist, and throughout her life she expressed her creativity through cooking and sewing. Her yeast rolls became a beloved family favorite, and she delighted in designing and sewing clothing for her daughters. She also treasured long shopping trips with her mother, often lasting for hours. Ruth Anne had a strong work ethic and enjoyed staying busy. She held a banking position in Lubbock, worked at Morrow Thomas in Amarillo, and later held roles in Plainview at Sears, Southwestern Public Service, and as a buyer for Gebo’s. In the mid1970s, she became a business owner when she purchased the Health Food Store on 7th Street. Before retiring, she worked in accounting at Central Plains MHMR, and finally held a parttime position as a bookkeeper at Waller’s Garage. She and Herman instilled in their children the value of hard work, a legacy they carried proudly.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman in 2004, and her 2nd husband Bill Scarbrough in 2016; her parents; her brother, R.G. Pratt; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; dear friends Creta Voyles and lifelong friend Geneva Colleen West Willborn; and her beloved cousin Janie Pearl Worley Vineyard.

Ruth Anne is survived by her brother, Charles Ray Pratt (Jerrice) of Fairview, TX; her three children and their spouses; and her grandchildren: Jason James of Wagoner, OK; Shandy Whitley (Brad) of Lubbock, TX; Ryan Betler (Araelia) of Midland, TX; Kori Bowen (Collin Wilcox) of Waco, TX; Cara Sauer (Ryan) of Greenville, TX; Caylee Bradshaw (Aubrey) of Bonham, TX; Byron Betler of Wylie, TX; and Melinda Flores (Joel) of Hutto, TX. She is also survived by ten greatgrandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
