Sarah Jane Kunkel (Plainview)

Sarah Jane Kunkel passed away on September 13, 2026, at the age of 91, in Lubbock, TX. Born on May 14, 1935, Sarah attended Vernon High School, which marked the completion of her formal education.

Sarah was deeply committed to her community and found joy in gardening, designing flower arrangements, and volunteering at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview, Texas, where she was a devoted member. Her involvement with the church was not just a pastime but a significant part of her life, reflecting her dedication to service and community.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter Deborah Ann Daniel, son-in-law Randy Daniel, daughter Karla Jane Stemple, son Nickoy Duane Kunkel, daughter-in-law Shannon Bounds Kunkel, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Vergil Duane Kunkel, and son-in-law Jay Stemple.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 901 Oakland Street, Plainview, Texas which was a place close to her heart and where she spent a significant part of her life. Sarah’s life was a testament to her faith and her devotion to the community she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 11:00 am on Saturday September 19th.
