Tommy Jack James, lovingly known to many as “Tommy Jack,” 66, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born on December 1, 1959, in Plainview, Texas, to Ray Jackson “Jack” James and Lillian James, where his roots, relationships, and lifelong friendships began.
Tommy was a proud graduate of Plainview High School, where he played football and developed a lifelong love for competition and discipline that followed him throughout his life. He later married Vickie Martin, and together they raised two sons who were the pride of his life: Russell James (wife Lakann James) of Houston, Texas, and Tyler James (wife Terra James, and their three daughters, Sloane, Sterlee and Stella Jack) of Liberty Hill, Texas.
Tommy was deeply connected to his family. He is survived by his siblings Judy Evans of Lubbock, Jerry James and wife LaGay of Plainview, Kay Shannon and husband Ronnie of Plainview, and Rickey James and wife Sue of Plainview. He also leaves behind countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who shared years of laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories with him.
A man full of energy and life, Tommy had a passion for personal fitness, farming, classic car shows with his buddies, days at the lake, and time spent at the beach. He was known for his fun-loving spirit, warm smile, and remarkable ability to connect with people.
Later in life, Tommy married Sherry Airhart of Ropes, Texas, and together they enjoyed cheering on Slade at basketball and football games.
In recent years, Tommy found a special place in South Padre Island, where he loved relaxing by the water, soaking up the sunshine and never missing a day at the gym. It was there that he found peace, balance, and happiness.
Tommy Jack will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, stayed active and laughed often. His presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8th from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, TX.
