Truitt Hershel Whitehead (Plainview)

Truitt Hershel Whitehead, 94, of Plainview passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 18th in the Plainview Memorial Park followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Terry Wright of Jerusalem Community Baptist Church in Hale Center officiating.

A visitation will be held on Monday evening, June 17, 2024 from 5 to 6 pm at Kornerstone in Plainview.

Truitt was born on November 4, 1929 in Brady, Texas to James Thomas and Mary Ann (Wooldridge) Whitehead. He started attending school in Priddy but after the loss of his father, they moved to Amarillo where he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. Truitt married Joyce Lee Everitt on October 19, 1947. Truitt worked in the tile and marble business for many years before moving to Plainview in 1960 where he started Plainview Tile & Marble and ran the business until the early 2000’s. He loved to sing and also served as a lay interim music minister for several Texas Panhandle churches. He also traveled in Texas leading the music for church revivals. Truitt was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Plainview but most recently was a member of Jerusalem Community Baptist Church in Hale Center. He was also a former member of the Noon Optimist Club in Plainview.

Truitt was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Whitehead; two daughters, Brenda Martin and Lou Ann Young; grandson, Nathan Hinn; his parents and four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his son, Steve Whitehead and wife Cindy of McGregor, Texas; three grandchildren, Paul Whitehead and wife Brittany of Richardson, Texas, Whitney Black and husband Travis of McGregor, Texas, Addison Hinn of Amarillo, Texas and seven great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Truitt’s caretakers, Pat Jackson and Destinee Riley, for the tremendous care they have provided for him over the years and consider them family.
