Wanda Mae Troutman Davey was born October 11, 1937, to Lloyd and Josephine Troutman at their home near Goodrich, Kansas. She grew up in eastern Kansas. She accepted Christ when she was five years old at children’s church at Goodrich, Kansas. She was a member of the Four Square in Goodrich, Kansas. She graduated from Parker High School in 1955. She lived in Ottawa, Kansas while working at Woolsworth until she married Rex Davey on November 5, 1955.
They lived in Ottawa, Kansas until 1957 when they moved to Plainview, Texas to start their custom harvesting business. They harvested fall crops in the Plainview area. However, each summer they traveled from Texas to North Dakota to harvest wheat. They were custom harvesters for 46 years. Wanda cooked countless meals for their crews of harvesters, kept the books for the business and drove trucks until they retired in 2004, all while maintaining a spotless house.
In Plainview, they were members of First Assembly of God Church and later Trinity Fellowship Church. Wanda was a part of the children’s ministry at First Assembly for years. She served the Lord through her ministry of hospitality by hosting countless showers, fellowships and cell groups in their home. She was known for her fiesta dinners, pumpkin pies, cherry and apricot cobblers, pink salad and cherry dessert. She faithfully prepared and served funeral dinners for those in need. For many years, Wanda hosted a multi-denominational Bible Study group that met every Thursday.
She was also a part of the music ministry of her church. She sang in the choir and on worship teams. She also enjoyed singing duets with her daughter and an occasional solo. Wanda had a rich, beautiful alto voice and she loved to harmonize by ear. In her later years, she was a member of the Millennium Singers community choir. Millennium Singers would sing hymns at the various retirement homes and sometimes the hospital in Plainview.
After retiring from harvesting, Wanda became a masterful Skipbo player. Throughout her life, she loved to read. In her later years, her favorite genre of books was Christian romance books involving the Amish.
She and Rex successfully raised three daughters and helped spoil 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 6 great grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Josephine Troutman, her two sisters, Wilma Walker and Aleta Sue DeBoer, and her beloved husband of 53 years, Rex Davey.
Wanda is survived by her daughters Penny Taylor (Bud) of Plainview, Shonda Lee (Roger) of Flomot and Kandice Whitehead (Hunt) of Southlake; granddaughters Jessica Rochelle Schupbach (Jordan) of Amarillo, Erin Harper(Ticen) of Haslet and Jenne Jacinto (Chris) of Keller; grandsons Hayden and Harrison Whitehead; great-grandchildren Travis Harper, Waveland Schupbach, Paxton Jacinto, Cadence Schupbach, Avilee Jacinto and Adeline Jacinto.
