April 20, 1942 — September 30, 2022

Lisa Garza (Tulia)

Elisa “Lisa” Z. Garza, 80, of Tulia, Texas, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, September 30, 2022. Lisa was born on April 20, 1942 in Alamo, Tx to Epitacio Zarate and Maria Ursula Olivarez. She attended school in Mission, Tx where she later met the love of her life David Garza, Sr. They united in marriage in 1957 in Mission and later moved to Friona then Tulia where they made it home. She worked for Tulia ISD for 35 years and retired from there in 2007. She joined the Guadalupanas in 1962 and was with them for 60 years. She served as their President, Vice President, and Treasurer. She was also treasurer for Grupo Amistad, treasurer 12 years for South Deanery at the Diocese of West Texas, Christian Formation teacher for 25 years and helped with the CYO. She was a member of the RSVP and was nominated for Woman of the Year. She had a passion for cooking and loved doing it during the holidays with her family and friends. She would volunteer her time to help the Guadalupanas feed the homeless during Thanksgiving at the West Texas Catholic Youth in Canyon. She was an exemplary role model of what it means to be a faithful Christian woman and love our Lord Jesus Christ.

She was and will always be the family’s Luminous, and brillante Estrella. When you would see her she had a smile that would shine so bright like the star she will forever be. The love, passion, and caring woman she was radiant through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. With a heart of gold that loved so many, the love for her family was never underestimated. She loved and enjoyed gathering with her family and friends. As each one of her grandchildren would fight over who was her favorite each one of them had a special place in her heart and she loved each one endlessly. She loved listening to and dancing to many Tejano songs, but her favorite song was “La Unica Estrella. “She was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy fan who never missed a game. She loved playing Bingo and enjoyed working for her extra paycheck. She enjoyed traveling anywhere David would take her. She loved cooking dinner and teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren how to. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and her famous stuffing will be greatly missed. She was the number one supporter of any event that she was able to attend. She loved her community as much as her family unconditionally, and her parish at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit. She will be missed by many, but dearly by her loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sons; Edward Garza and Angel Garza, her Grandson; Richard “Richie” Castellon.

She is survived by the love of her life David Garza, Sr., of Tulia, her children, Joe Garza and wife Nelda, of Tulia, Luis Garza and wife Christina, of Amarillo, Ruben Garza of Amarillo, David Garza, Jr. of Tulia, and Sara Castellon and husband Val, of Amarillo, her siblings; Manuel Zarate of Mexico, Luisa Godinez, Angel Olivarez and Christina Sundstrom all of Oregon, 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 200+ Godchildren, and many more grandchildren that she would call hers.
